Standing in front of a room or other meeting facility and addressing a group of people that could be strangers, peers, friends, colleagues or clients can be nerve wracking and unsettling to even the most confident individual. It is a fact, however, that a project manager will be required to deliver many presentations during his or her career and it is important to develop the skills needed to be successful as a presenter.

Theme of the Month – Dynamite Presentations for Project Managers: Presentation Techniques That Capture the Audience: How to get a 5-star
rating from your meeting participants
By Barbara Houser, M.A.
“It was a waste of time.” “We accomplished nothing.” “I don’t know why I was invited -- the topics discussed had nothing to do with me.” “I never had a chance to give my opinion.” “George and Marina dominated the whole discussion.” “What are we supposed to do now?”

Top Ten Presentation Tips
By Steve Blash, PMP and Greta Blash, PMP
Introduction
Congratulations!! You have been asked to make a presentation. Someone believes that you have something worth hearing or seeing, or maybe both. Most people are never asked to be a presenter so now you have an invitation to become a member of a very exclusive group. Only those members have heard the flattering words, “We would like you to make a presentation for us.”

Deliver a Presentation like Steve Jobs
By Carmine Gallo
Project managers know that team-building and effective communications are critical tools for success. Presentations give project managers the opportunity to inspire stakeholders to buy into the vision. In my opinion, nobody does presentations better than Apple CEO Steve Jobs. While most presenters deliver information, Jobs inspires. I analyzed his latest presentation for Macworld 2008 and identified the 10 keys that you can adopt to dazzle your audience.

The Fear of Public Speaking
By Jolyon E. Hallows, Certified Management Consultant (CMC)
Several years ago, I jumped out of an airplane. Yes, the plane was flying and, yes, I had a parachute. Am I some extreme dude who thrives on mortal risks and believes that life is only worth living when it’s about to end? No. In fact, I’m somewhat risk-averse; waterslides bother me and I get nauseated even on merry-go-rounds. How, then, was I able to leap from an airplane at five thousand feet above the ground and overcome my

Project Review Meetings – Every PM, Every Project, Every Month By Ryan L. Hayes
Project management usually focuses on how to organize and manage resources in a way that the project is completed within defined scope, quality, time, and cost constraints. Practitioners of project management have internalized numerous principles that reflect this. They ultimately seek to ensure that a project is delivered within these defined constraints.
If the above goal sounds obvious, it should. Virtually all companies in the

Positive Leadership In Project Management – Creativity and Innovation, The Leader’s Edge
By Frank P. Saladis PMP
Creativity and innovation are critical skills for any leader and a “must have” for success. As people mature and become comfortable in their respective job assignments, the inherent creativity found in everyone seems to dissipate or become sealed in a deep chamber of the mind where it is forgotten. During class discussions I often bring creativity and innovation into the dialog. I ask the class participants about their creative

Ask Harry! Training Choices – A Few Things to Consider
By Harry Rever, PMP – Director of Six Sigma, IIL
I’m often asked by training participants what to look for or consider when looking for a PMP or Six Sigma certification training provider. For most of us in the project management and process improvement field, training is something of great importance to us individually and for our place of employment. Over the years, I’ve been to hundreds of days of training and attended more seminars than I can recall. As a Six Sigma and Project

How to Maintain your Focus under Stress
By Seth B. Greenwald, PMP
Have you ever felt unfocused, distracted or discombobulated? Silly question, right? The nature of project management is to be pulled in many directions at once. Your boss wants something now; your team needs you urgently; your client is in a very needy mood today; your consultant is MIA; your contractor requires answers or else the whole project grinds to a halt in the next hour! With so many conflicting forces acting on us, it’s a
