Newest Course Provides Introduction to the Agile Approach and Explores Relation to Project Management Practices

New York, NY – June 4, 2009 – International Institute for Learning, Inc. (IIL), a global leader in professional training in the areas of Project, Program, and Portfolio Management, Business Analysis, Microsoft®Office Project and Project Server, PRINCE2®, and Lean Six Sigma, today announced the launch of its newest course, Agile Development and Project Management, further expanding the company’s broad portfolio of learning solutions.

As IIL’s first offering to touch upon Agile development, the course will provide an introduction to the Agile approach and will explore how it can help project managers do more with less and enhance their traditional development and project management philosophies and practices.

“For projects involving a significant software component, traditional project managers are increasingly being asked to lead and work with Agile-trained teams,” said E. LaVerne Johnson, Founder, President, and CEO of IIL. “It is imperative that these project managers learn about the principles and practices of Agile development in order to be truly effective team members. IIL’s latest course will provide the introduction needed to successfully navigate the dual environment of Agile development and project management.”

The concept of Agile software development incorporates the principles of a number of software development and quality management methods that are based on speeding the time to market. The Agile development approach enables cycle time reductions through lower process overhead and more efficient and responsive practices.

Upon completion of the course, participants will understand the basic Agile approach and the various methods for achieving agility and will be able to apply selected Agile practices to specific software development situations.

For a limited time, IIL will be offering the course at a special introductory rate in the company’s live, virtual classroom environment. For more information or to enroll, please visit the IIL Virtual Classroom Schedule.

<font color="#0000FF"; size="2"> NYPD Executives Experience The Power of Acknowledgment

Renowned Author Spreads Message of Acknowledgment as Potent Communication Tool through Worldwide Speaking and Training Engagements

New York, NY – May 27, 2009 – Judith W. Umlas, author of The Power of Acknowledgment (IIL Publishing, New York),has embarked on a series of high-profile speaking engagements and workshops teaching acknowledgment as a communication tool and as a means to motivate and inspire employees and teams at a time when it is critical for organizations to do more with less.

An experienced trainer and speaker, Umlas aims to draw even the most reticent into lively exchanges that can profoundly and permanently alter them. Most recently she led a half-day workshop for the New York City Police Department (NYPD) as part of the agency’s Executive Development Program.

Captain Daniel E. Sosnowik, Commanding Officer, Executive Development Section, NYPD, expressed his appreciation to Umlas for bringing her message to the executives of the agency. "I was struck not only by the powerful lessons it conveys, but by the lasting impression it made on my own behavior, both in and out of the workplace, when I initially took the course,” he said. “In a world where simple appreciation of the value of others is not expressed nearly enough, The Power of Acknowledgment teaches us the meaning of authentic recognition, and the very real benefits that accrue to those who learn this important skill.”

This string of engagements is an expansion of the acclaimed book The Power of Acknowledgment in which Umlas unleashes the concept of an Age of Acknowledgment that reveals to readers the benefits of acknowledging each other in a profound, authentic and heartfelt way. She divulges her own experiences through the use of engaging storytelling, thus illustrating how to acknowledge people for their humanity, accomplishments, talents, contributions, and commitment. As a result, readers quickly grasp the impact on both giver and receiver.

In her most recent engagement, Umlas led NYPD executive officers in laying a foundation for an action plan to promote a culture of acknowledgment within the agency, building a work atmosphere that boosts loyalty, engagement, and cooperation and fosters healthy exchange with the public.

“The  NYPD executives were open and eager to absorb the message of the workshop and it became clear that each participant was committed to bringing the positive influence of acknowledgment to other NYPD staff and all that they touch,” said Umlas. “Bringing this concept to the NYPD was an honor and a privilege and I am confident that they will establish a culture of appreciation that extends beyond the agency and directly into the communities they serve.”

In addition to the NYPD, Umlas has recently led workshops at a host of high-profile organizations and events, including:

  • Civil Rights Regional Directors’ Roundtable for the US Department of Justice with attendees from Housing & Urban Development, Department of Education, US Attorney’s Office, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • The World Bank
  • The Westervelt Company
  • Mundo Brazil Project Management Soft Skills Conference
  • SABA Regional User Group Meeting
  • T-Systems, which licensed a virtual program on The Power of Acknowledgment for all new leaders to attend
  • Columbia University School of International & Public Affairs Conflicts Resolution Program
  • Hofstra University Lifelong Learning Program
  • University of Maryland University College Graduate Conflict Resolution Program
  • PMI Rochester Chapter’s Professional Development Day, Keynote Speech
Upcoming engagements include a presentation at the 2009 PMI Global Congress, “Cutting Edge Advances in the Utilization of a Timeless Tool, The Power of Acknowledgment, for Immediate Breakthrough Results on Project Teams,” a presentation at People 2009, the Saba Global Summit, and weekly virtual sessions on The Power of Acknowledgment that are often attended by hundreds of people around the globe (http://www.iil.com/webinar).

Judith W. Umlas is available to visit organizations worldwide to meet with teams and employees to develop a custom Acknowledgment Action Plan. All participants will engage in individual and group exercises and will work extensively with the author to transform their professional and personal lives. <font color="#0000FF"; size="2"> International Institute for Learning Announces Exclusive Diamond Sponsorship of PMINYC Chapter

Global Leader in Project, Program, and Portfolio Management Learning Solutions Takes Major Role in the Development of NYC’s Project Management Professionals

New York, NY – April 1, 2009 – International Institute for Learning, Inc. (IIL) today announced a significant contribution to PMINYC, the New York City Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI), becoming the organization’s first and only Diamond Sponsor–the highest category of sponsorship available. With IIL’s sponsorship, the PMINYC Chapter hopes to offer enhanced education and networking initiatives for the Chapter’s 2,600-plus membership base.

“We are honored to support the efforts of the PMINYC Chapter and the wide-ranging opportunities it brings to the New York City project management community,” said E. Laverne Johnson, Founder, CEO and President of IIL. “PMINYC’s mission to grow their membership not only in numbers, but also in knowledge, in skill, and in competence, is in perfect alignment with our own corporate philosophy. We have a profound appreciation for the work of this chapter and we welcome the opportunity to build a stronger relationship with our New York City clients at this critical level.”

IIL has long been a supporter of PMINYC, hosting the Chapter’s meetings in the IIL Learning Center at the company’s headquarters in the early days of the chapter’s formation. The Chapter held monthly meetings at the IIL Learning Center until growth demanded they seek a new space for meetings and events. Since then, IIL has partnered extensively with the chapter to offer its services at Professional Development Days and Chapter meetings, in addition to arranging speakers on a wide variety of topics.

“PMINYC’s theme for 2009 is ‘Building Bridges for Our Future;’ this includes building bridges across our Rivers, across our Oceans and across our Communities–or R-O-C as we call it. We believe we can truly “ROC” NYC with the PMINYC Chapter and all it has to offer,” said Beth Ouellette, PMINYC Chapter President. “Partnering with IIL as our Diamond Sponsor advances all of these targets. In our world today, we have many challenges, and it is logical to forge partnerships which are mutually beneficial and fruitful.”

She added, “The additional offerings and value-add, along with the high quality that IIL brings to the table, is just the right mix to create tremendous possibilities for the NYC project management community. We are delighted and excited about the bridge we are building for our future.”

Educational Powerhouses Align to Deliver State-of-the-Art Instruction for Project Management and Business Analysis Professionals

New York, NY – March 16, 2009 – International Institute for Learning, Inc. (IIL), a global leader in professional training in the areas of Project, Program, and Portfolio Management, Business Analysis, Microsoft® Office Project and Project Server, PRINCE2™, and Lean Six Sigma, today announced the launch of a collaboration between the company and New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) to offer jointly programs for project management and business analysis professionals. The alliance will enable program participants to meet the requirements of many tuition assistance programs, a critical attraction for adult learners in tough economic times.

NYU-SCPS has been for 75 years a leader in providing university-based professional continuing education—through graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs—for working professionals, in key industry sectors, including human resources, accounting, finance, IT, publishing, real estate, and marketing, among many others.

“IIL is honored to work with the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies in offering the very best professional training for today’s business leaders. These certificate programs and courses will give our clients a strong advantage in this challenging economy,” said E. LaVerne Johnson, Founder, President, and CEO of IIL.  “With IIL’s 18 global operating companies, serving the training needs of clients in over 120 countries in the last year alone, and NYU’s status as a global network university, our combined worldwide reach will allow for virtual learning experiences among a vast and diverse pool of professionals.”

Anthony Davidson, Divisional Dean of the NYU-SCPS Division of Programs in Business, which will manage the collaboration with IIL, said, “This alliance joins two organizations that are committed to excellence in education and service and enhances greatly the range of training opportunities for both experienced and novice project management practitioners.” He added, “It is our hope that this collaboration is a paradigm for the future of business and professional education—grounded in academic rigor, driven by industry applicability.”

The joint offerings feature both certificate programs and individual courses in Project Management, Lean Six Sigma, Microsoft® Office Project and Project Server, and Business Analysis.  Courses will be available in both a traditional classroom setting, featuring live instruction in major cities worldwide, and a virtual classroom setting, providing professionals with the flexibility of study at home or in the office without travel costs or inconveniences.

Upon successful completion of the program, all participants will receive an official university grade mailer, a letter grade, and a certificate of completion issued by IIL and NYU-SCPS. Official NYU transcripts will also be available for those students that request or require them.

Broad Portfolio of Learning Solutions to Feature Latest Standards, Including New PMBOK® Guide – Fourth Edition, and Unique Comparative Analyses

New York, NY – February 10, 2009 – International Institute for Learning, Inc. (IIL) today announced a three-phase endeavor to ensure complete coverage of recently revised industry standards for over 100 related courses, further establishing IIL as the global leader in professional project, program, and portfolio management training. As a full service provider of learning solutions, IIL will integrate four different standard updates into their portfolio, including the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide – Fourth Edition) from the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

“Innovation is the spirit that drives us forward. Our industry experts have been working diligently to guarantee that our clients have the most up-to-date, state-of-the-art tools to ensure that they remain competitive in today’s marketplace,” said E. Additional standard updates include The Standard for Program Management – Second Edition, The Standard for Portfolio Management – Second Edition, and the Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®) – Second Edition, each from PMI®.

To further assist clients in acclimating to the new editions, IIL will release unique comparative analyses of the various editions to accompany the redesigned courseware.

“When we took on the enormous task of incorporating the standard updates into our portfolio, we wanted to ensure that we improved all of our courses, offering our clients deeper, broader, and more flexible learning solutions,” said Angyne Schock-Smith, Senior Instructional Designer for IIL’s Global Learning Solutions. “With this in mind, we created exclusive comparative analyses, providing our clients with our own unique observations and comparisons for the updates.”

IIL’s updated portfolio will roll out in accordance with the standards’ release dates from PMI®, with the first round of new editions available after February 10. The first round includes all Advanced Project Management Certification (APMC®) courses, Project Management Fundamentals, and Project Management Fundamentals for Information Technology.
