Tips [3]
You are the project manager for a project team that is developing a new machine for your company. The machine will produce a specific part used to be used in the assembly of a state of the art robotics product. You are in the testing phase of the project life cycle. The control chart produced during the test indicates 8 consecutive data points above the process average but well below the UCL. How do you interpret the information on the chart?

Answer = b.  A run on a control chart indicates that some specific or special cause may be a factor in the process. A general rule for interpreting control charts is that if seven or more consecutive data points appear on the control chart a “run” has been established and an out of control situation may exist. Further analysis to determine the cause of the run is necessary.
